Biofilters and Aerotanks Reconstruction
The number of out-of-date and inefficient sewage purification systems of America and" Western Europe is making over 20%. What concerns Russia, due to more severe climatic conditions, constant breaks in power supply, poor maintenance, - more than 80% of sewage works do not function or do not provide the sufficient purification level. Since the technological designs of RSRI APS will provide, alongside with small capital investments for conversion, high and stable sewage purification quality, reduction of power consumption for the capacity range between 100 and 100000 m3/day 2-3 times, 50-70% cut in the number of the personnel, the majority of the existing works will be reconstructed in accordance with the proposed designs. Reconstruction provides an opportunity to reduce the size of sanitary protection zones to 50-100 m, which, in turn, allows the use of adjacent areas for industrial and civil construction. Refunding of loans for the reconstruction of sewage treatment facilities with productivity over 10000 m3/day due to reducing the operating costs is 4-6 years. If the productivity is 1000-10000 m3/day, then it will take 7-10 years for refunding.
The first CWs in Severino Settlement of the Krasnodar Territory were started up on April 29, 1985. The vessels of the aeration tanks out of operation (those meant for prolongated aeration) were used for their construction. The settler reservoirs, as well as those of the aerotanks and pumping stations, can be applied as the basis for a CW. Meanwhile the works capacity can be enhanced 1.5-4 times.
At the moment we are finishing the conversion of 1500 m3/day biofilters in the village of Starodub of the Bryansk Region for 6000 m3/day CW.

Due to the proximity of residential houses of town Kubinka, Moscow region from the building site of sewage treatment plants and the necessity to expand the park area, project of works reconstruction has been developed by RSRI APS technology. Existing installations and works will be reconstructed into closed, environmentally friendly sewage treatment facilities with capacity of 7000 m3/day. At the same time in the primary sediment areas there is room for fine mechanical treatment grids, vertical sand catchers, mechanical sludge dewatering department, used air processing installations. Under the CW tanks of aeration are used; Bioreactors of advanced treatment are placed in secondary sediment areas; UV disinfection installations are located in the contact reservoirs.
