SEDIMENT THICKENING INSTALLATIONS
(patent 1376503)

These installations are designed to treat the sewage sediment produced by the works from 100 to 5,000 m3/day capacities.

The sediment (excess sludge) is pressure-driven to case 1 where liquid is separated, through a filtering canvas, from the sediment suspension. As the filtration resistance grows, switched on is vibrodrive 2 equipped with a crankshaft. The process of regeneration of filtering element 3 is in fact vibro-shaking of filter 3 and liquid (filtrate) water hammering caused by screening plate 4 in the line of the filtering canvas. Filtrate vibration is caused by periodic coming together and moving away of filtering element 3 and screening plate 4 which happen while the crankshaft rotates. The screening plate valves open and close as they come close to and move away from the filtering element, which action enhances the impingement attack of the filtrate. Perforated plates 5 promote sediment thickening and discharging. The installation may be produced together with dehelminting equipment.
